The UCP Trophy project aimed to explore and document the rich construction traditions of India, focusing on lesser-known art forms. As the unit designee, I had the unique opportunity to visit and document the Ratwar Jali art form, a traditional painted clay relief crafted by the women of the Rajwar community. This art not only beautifies their homes but also reflects the cultural heritage of the region. Working with a team of six, we translated our observations into detailed sketches, emphasizing the sustainable use of local materials like bamboo and mud, enhanced with vibrant contrasting colors. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of the significance of traditional craftsmanship and its role in sustainable architecture, showcasing how such practices can create visually pleasing and long-lasting designs while requiring minimal maintenance.
