The design aimed to create residences for the Rabari community, a pastoral group in India, on a site located in Asundar village near Navsari, along the highway. The project addressed the community’s unique needs by integrating cattle sheds for each residential unit. The layout was organized into multiple clusters, with groups of four units each, promoting open spaces at both the site and cluster levels, encouraging social interaction and a sense of community.
In addition to the housing units and cattle sheds, essential community facilities were incorporated to enhance the quality of life for the Rabari residents. These facilities included a temple, an Aanganwadi (childcare center), a community hall, a veterinary clinic, a milk depot, and a provision store. This holistic design approach aimed to support the Rabari community’s daily needs while preserving their cultural identity and pastoral lifestyle.
By combining residential, agricultural, and communal elements, the project fostered a functional and harmonious living environment, meeting the practical and social needs of the Rabari people while respecting their traditional way of life.
